Intel SSDs Cooler Than Facebook or Twitter?December 21, 2009

According to the December print edition of PC World, the Intel X25-M SSD ranked No. 3 in the PC World Top 100 Best Products of 2009, ahead of both Facebook and Twitter. According to the publication, "This model's speedy test results put it at the top of our chart; its price and performance make it a compelling flash upgrade for notebook or desktop users." SSDs, or Solid State Drives, are storage devices that can replace a computer's hard drive. Because SSDs have no moving parts they offer faster performance and greater energy efficiency and durability.

Everything CHANNEL Test Center has named the 34nm Intel X25-M Mainstream SSD one of the Best Products of the Year for 2009. According to the publication, "The advanced feature set and more attractive pricing give Intel the potential to gain an even larger portion of the growing SSD market."

BSNL Unwires WiMAX in rural IndiaDecember 14, 2009

BSNL launched India's first commercial WiMAX service on December 13 to begin bringing mobile broadband connectivity to rural India. Analysts predict India will be the biggest base on earth for WiMAX by 2012. Besides high-speed broadband Internet access, rural citizens can benefit from e-government services including bill payment, vehicle registration and issuance of birth certificates, as well as telemedicine, tele-education and banking services.

Intel Cloud Computing Service Measures Multicore App PerformanceNovember 17, 2009

To boost parallel programming, Intel introduced a Web-based service that allows software developers to assess how their applications will perform on a number of multicore processor configurations. Powered by Intel® Parallel Studio, the Intel® Parallel Universe Portal is a cloud computing analysis tool that tests parallel applications, written for the Windows operating system, in multicore environments on an on-demand basis. The tool is currently available to members of the Intel Software Network through the Intel Parallel Universe Portal at no charge.


Intel, IT Industry Collaborate for Taiwan Typhoon ReliefOctober 30, 2009

Intel Taiwan is working with Acer, Asus, Microsoft Taiwan, the Ministry of Education, Red Cross Society and Taiwan Association for Educational Communications and Technology to set up IT learning environments for schools and digital services centres for communities to support the Typhoon Morakot disaster relief. Through this program, Acer, Asus, Intel Taiwan and Microsoft Taiwan will donate a total of 4,500 notebook PCs, netbooks, and desktop PCs with OS and software to help expedite education and community rebuilding in the typhoon affected areas. The typhoon-devastated schools will gain support from this program which combines PC donation and teachers training courses for building the IT learning environments. The digital services centers at communities are intended to support the agricultural products e-marketing, tourism development, indigenous culture communication, and after-school education.
